About Me

Lynda Green Alter, LMFT ( Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist ) is a highly experienced and interactive psychotherapist who practices Cognitive Therapy, sometimes referred to as Solution-Focused Therapy.  Licensed since 1995, she has done training with most of the masters in her field.  Her areas of specialization are with individuals, children, teens, couples and families.  She also specializes in individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, phobias, eating disorders, ADHD in both children and adults, and Bi-Polar Disorders to just name a few.  A major focus for her since she was an intern is child abuse, sexual trauma, and rape.  Lynda also has vast experience in dealing with crisis management and stress management.  12-Step Counseling in substances and alcohol is an area that has become a major focus in her practice within the last fifteen to over twenty years.  Her training and teaching in communication help individuals as well as couples improve their communication between each other with highly specialized techniques, exercises and skills.  Understanding the differences is a resource that she uses to help couples learn new ways of understanding themselves as well as their partner.  Specialized listening techniques are an area that Lynda has taught her interns as well as her patients.

With over twenty years experience as a Marriage and Family Therapist, and as a graduate of  Ryokan University, she is currently serving as a private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients in Orange County,  California.  Among her areas of expertise are couples dealing in crisis, parenting issues, and how to cope when your child becomes a teen.  She frequently assists "blended families" with their specialized needs.  Lynda believes in giving back to the community.  As a Clinical Supervisor, she donates her time (pro bono) to various non-profit organizations in order to supervise their trainees and interns (to help guide them in becoming the best therapist they can be); which has become a passion for her.

In addition to being a prominent relationship therapist, Lynda has presented at National conferences and to general audiences speaking on topics of Coping in Long-Term Relationships, and Growing up in a society where women are viewed  as lower companions.  Women's issues are a particular niche area for her as she conducts groups for Women in Transition and Divorce.  In addition, there are other groups available for Men in Transition as well as for Couples.  From 1997 - present,  Lynda operated as the Director of the Mars & Venus Counseling Centers, where she facilitated many workshops and seminars delivering the concepts and principles from renowned author, Dr. John Gray; Mars & Venus books on marriage, relationships, and parenting.

Her therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical coping skills with feedback to help clients effectively address personal life issues and challenges. She integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client.  With compassion and understanding, she works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.  She has written many articles targeting specialized areas for treatment, which she uses as an adjunct to support the recovery process for her patients.  You can read some of her articles on this website.

Lynda is a psychotherapist committed to Christian principles and practices weaves them into her methodologies.
